Instructor Certification August 1-12, 2005
In 2005, the first Instructor Certification event was launched in a two-week course from August 1st to 12th. After the successful completion of the program, the participants from Thailand and the United States were certified to teach the Level 1 courses of the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program (SMSCP) at their institutions.
The agenda of the course comprised both technical and didactic elements. After an icebreaker and an introduction to the Siemens Technik Akademie (STA) Berlin during which the participants got to know their counterparts and the surroundings, an example mechatronic system was introduced. After presentations from the STA teachers, the ICP participants had to show their own projects in the following days.
The teachers worked with simulator packages for PLC programming and used programming simulations themselves. Moreover, they learned about the funtion of the diagnostic kit and analyzed an energy plan with the goal of understanding the energy flow in mechatronic sytems.
Besides technical training, implementation discussions played an important role in the Instructor Certification event. In this context, the participants discussed how to implement the program into their existing curricula.
The System Approach was imparted through presentations from Gerd Voigt and teamwork exercises, in which lesson plans for electrical and mechanical components were prepared and presented.
The week was completed with some sightseeing and cultural information about Berlin and Germany.
