On November 24, 2009, five students from Greenville Technical College and nineteen from Spartanburg Community College took the Level1 exam of the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program online. This was the first SMSCP exam to be offered in the state of South Carolina. The 24 students successfully completed the preparation for Level 1 certification, which consists of four courses: Electrical Components, Mechanical Components and Electrical Drives, (Electro) Pneumatic and Hydraulic Control Circuits, Digital Fundamentals and Programmable Logic Controllers.
